When he wasn’t at home working on Cider with Rosie, author Laurie Lee was often to be found supping a pint or two in the Snug of his beloved Woolpack – a sturdy stone-built hostelry overlooking the verdant expanses of the Slad valley. Lovely characterful place, what a view! And the food was delicious: the smoked cod's roe was so good, veal rump with borlotti beans, and the beautifully tender onglet were outstanding! Only room in our tummies to share the dessert of cherry and almond tart, all in all an excellent meal.
